i choo choo choose you. (from LJ)

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY BOO's :)

i sent the boyprend a heart shaped eli's cheesecake and lou malnati's pizza, hopefully it arrives today. you cant find that anywere in miami, thats fo sho. the distance isnt the greatest of things in our relationship, but the little pick me ups do the trick just fine. this is our 2nd valentine's day together, eehhhh, i think we're doing a good job. ha! my sisters and i are going out for dinner at house of sushi and noodles, and s.'ll be 'on child duty' for the lil cousin while everyone goes on their vday dates at his house, yay fun. moms has on her red shirt with a couple rhinestone hearts in the center and dressed the pup up in her red hoodie with a sweet honey bee on it from good ol' targe'. i sent out some old skool valentine's day cards with heart shaped suckers in the envelope. then i found out that some folks got them with JUST THE WRAPPER 'cause someone took the lollipop out! how foul is that?! leave it up to the 606 post office to do some whack sh.t like that. my friend sent a care package to her little sister in college some time ago with chocolate chips cookieS sealed in tupperware. the little sister got ONE cookie with crumbs in the tupperware and a note that said, "the cookies were delicious!" when the package finally arrived. no joke! the magic that a box cutter and mailing tape can do, bogus bidness.

everyone at work yesterday was in this lovey dovey spirit, it was nice. cupcakes with chocolate icing and heart shaped sprinkles (who calls them jimmies??), an ice cream social in the late afternoon, balloons and light music on the overhead...definitely a change of environment from all the codes and intubations and self-extubations that have been happening. eeww, bad mental picture. sorry. for my first 90 days my preceptor and i shared 2 patients, currently i get 2 patients and she gets 1 patient, but by the end of the month i should be on my own, wiff my own 2 patients and the umbilical cord will be cut :( so i have to get on my lab values and meds concentrations. there's a lot of support on the unit from the old skool nurses. everyone is ate', manang, ineng, inday, not matter where your from, what dialect you speak (or hear at home), they'll take you under their wing. and yes, we run the intensive care unit. about 90% of the staff is filipino, actually, most of the hospital is filipino from the lunch ladies, house keeping, nurses and doctors, pt/ot and social workers, and its great. its not something that i expected to see in the middle of humboldt park, but doing three 12hr shifts a week, its definitely a nice home away from home. and i my preceptor, she is so smart, she takes her time with everything, she's on point with everything, she's the cream of the crop. she definitely follows the golden rule: treat the patients like theyre your fam. some people, uhm health care providers, tend to forget that after a while, people are laying in stool or urine, or their iv bags arent changed after 24hrs, or their dressings are soaked and its still sitting on their skin. bad news bacteria filled grimy bears. with my fam in and out of the hospital lately i couldnt imagine someone being like that with them...that's why one of us sisters is posted up in the room 24-7, ha! you have to, unfortunately from what ive seen in hospitals, including the one im at, you gotta be there so that everything goes right. terrible, i know. just be sure to ask a LOT of questions and do your research. it'll help. believe that.

eh, thats about it for today. same ol same. gona hit the gym for training. i decided not to train on the days that im working 'cause that's 12hrs on my feet then a 2-4mile run after work, no dice. who am i kidding. the regimen calls for daily training, that aint happnin. i get enough running on the unit from keeping up with drips and blood draws and taking patients from test to test. ive been crazy with the DS, i fall asleep playing on it, its ridiculous. the conference calls for sandiwa are on my sundays off, thank jeebus. and im off for a couple days so, here's to cleaning and trying to get organized and trying to reply to emails. hoo-haaa.
